For the Love of Felicia (Part 9)

The much anticipated weekend was here! Felicia and Jessica were preparing themselves for their double date at Jessica’s house, as had become their “going out” routine. This saved time and allowed the women to talk and pre-game before their escapade. By preparing at Jessica’s house, they also had no worry of watching the children, because Jessica’s mother automatically took over their care.

“What do you think Sergio’s friend looks like?” Felicia curiously asked Jessica.

“Girl, I’m sure he is as fine as Sergio so I don’t even care! You shouldn’t either; this night is about you having a good time with a real man!”

“I don’t know, Jessica,” Felicia responded doubtfully. “I mean, what do I really know about him?”

“Stop worrying so much! You know enough to know that he’s a gentleman and went out of his way to make sure you were comfortable going out with him. How many guys do you know who willingly take extra baggage on first dates?”

“You do make a good point. See, that’s why we’re such great friends!” Felicia laughed.

So that the women would feel even more at ease, Sergio suggested that they all meet at the restaurant that was also a night club. It was located along South Beach in Miami. The restaurant had been in business for a little over a year and was doing extremely well! It was known for having famous dj’s and live bands that played a mix of hip-hop, soul, and Latin music from all around the Caribbean. Aside from great music, some of their food dishes had been featured on various food networks. Not too shabby for a first date!

When arriving at the night club, the women, both dressed in colorful tops, with skin-tight jeans, and stiletto heels, that accentuated the strength in their calves, were greeted by the two finest gentlemen there. Sergio and his friend literally looked like night and day walking side by side. The women were so drawn into the sexy specimens before their eyes, that their mouths were agape. Luckily, there weren’t any flies around!

Sergio spoke first saying, “Good evening beautiful queens!” As he spoke, he leaned and placed a soft kiss on Felicia’s cheek while handing her a single, long-stemmed, red rose. Pointing to his friend, Sergio stated, “And this is my friend Kalief. Kalief meet Felicia and Jessica.”

Felicia took in all of Sergio’s masculine handsomeness. Sergio was about 6’2” tall. At closer inspection, Felicia compared his complexion to the soft color of jojoba butter. He had an athletic build that was making his arms beautifully stretch the bicep area of his button-down shirt.

As Sergio had given Felicia a rose, Kalief handed Jessica a small bouquet of colorful flowers that actually went with her outfit. In a deep baritone voice, Kalief said, “Nice to meet you! And you, Jessica, Sergio did you no justice when he attempted to describe your vibe!”

Blushing and smiling, Jessica responded, “Thank you, Kalief! If it makes you feel any better, I had no idea what you looked like. So seeing you is a delicious treat to my eyes!”

Kalief could have been the twin of Kofi Siriboe! He had deep brown skin that was as smooth as pressed almond butter. Kalief stood about 6’3”, which complimented Jessica’s natural height of 5’7” that she increased with the stilettos. Together, they looked like a Paris magazine cover.

Breaking the flirting session, Felicia spoke, “Look, we are all beautiful kings and queens. Even kings and queens need to eat and enjoy themselves!” Upon Felicia speaking, the double-daters entered their destination to see what was in store.

For the Love of Felicia (Part 8)

A few days had passed since Felicia had the argument with Terrence. To her surprise, she heard nothing from him, not even to check on their son, TJ. Felicia felt that it would only be a matter of time before he decided to contact her or show up at her house. Until then, she was enjoying the quiet of not being bothered by him.

Thinking that she spoke too soon, Felicia reluctantly picked up her phone when the text message alert went off several times in a row. She knew that it would be Terrence begging for her forgiveness and explaining how he had changed. Opening her text messages, she saw that it was Sergio instead. Before Felicia could read the messages, her phone started ringing.

“Hello,” Felicia timidly answered.

Responding in that strong Cuban accent, Sergio said, “Hello, Beautiful! I hope I haven’t caught you at a bad time.”

Smiling, Felicia said, “No, not at all. How are you?”

“I am well! I apologize for taking so long to call you, but I was back in Cuba visiting family.”

“I didn’t realize it had been that long,” Felicia playfully said.

“Oh really? So are you saying that you do not care that I called?” Sergio sounded offended and hurt at the same time.

“No, no, Sergio, that isn’t what I’m saying. I was playing with you; I’m happy that you called! I didn’t mean to offend you,” Felicia stated apologetically.

Laughing, Sergio said, “I was also messing with you, Beautiful!”

“I knew that,” Felicia chuckled.

“Before I go on, I was calling to see if I could take you out for some dinner and dancing on Saturday.”

“And to make you more comfortable, you can bring Jessica along. I have a friend who she may like.”

“Wow! You have thought of everything! Do you mind if I call you back after I talk to her?” Felicia was amazed that he also remembered her best friend’s name. She was impressed indeed!

“Oh, yes, that will be fine. Don’t make me wait too long, Beautiful!”

“I won’t. I will let you know as soon as I know. Talk to you in a little while.”

“Until we speak again…” Sergio ended the call.

Felicia wasted no time calling Jessica. As soon as Jessica answered, Felicia exclaimed, “Sergio called me and wants me and you to go out with him and his friend! They want to take us out to eat and to dinner! Tell me that you will go!”

“Slow down,” Jessica laughed. “When is this date? I can’t believe you actually agreed to it. I’m happy that you did, but I can’t believe it! You may really be over Terrence! I’m so proud of you!”

“Hush, woman! I didn’t say anything yet. I’m waiting on you!”

“Hurry up and call him back! I’m in! I don’t even care who his friend is…I want to see you having some genuine fun!”

“Ok, ok! I will talk to you later!” Felicia quickly hung up so that she could call Sergio back.

“Hello, Beautiful!” Sergio said as he answered her call.

“Jessica and I can’t wait to see you and your friend this weekend…”

“Now tell me how you figure you can ignore my calls and stay out all night when you have my son to take care of!” Terrence barked at Felicia.

“You know it isn’t even like that. How often do I go out? And you know TJ was well-cared for. I would never do anything to put him in harm’s way! I can’t believe that you think I would!”

“I know you aren’t raising your voice at me! You better respect me when you talk to me!” Terrence warned as he closed the distance between him and Felicia.

Backing up, attempting to regain some space, Felicia responded, “I can’t with you anymore, Terrence! I swear I put up with so much junk from you. And for what? You are in MY house telling me to respect you.” Laughing, Felicia continued, “You don’t even know what that word means. You come and go as you please. You don’t help me with anything except giving me headaches and stressing me the freak out. Hell, you can’t possibly love me. You have a woman at home, with more kids that you do nothing for. You…”

“I take care of mine!” Terrence interjected. “You sound like you have been letting Jessica get all up in your head with the crap you speaking.”

“No, Terrence, this is all me! I can’t take it anymore! I can’t take you! I can’t take taking care of you and all of your kids! I can’t take always making myself available to you! I can’t take not living my life because I stupidly think that you will one day change and do right by me! All you take care of is yourself. Maybe it’s time that I do the same.”

Surprising Felicia, Terrence suddenly lunged forward and wrapped his hands around her neck. Applying enough pressure to make her take notice, Terrence said, “Don’t start something that you can’t finish. You’re being real reckless with your words right now. What are you going to do without me? Be careful what you sayin’.”

Gaining some inner strength, Felicia stood as tall as she could and said, “This is the last time that you put your hands on me! Let go of my neck and get out of my house!”

Terrence released his grip, realizing that Felicia was serious and coming from a place he didn’t recognize. “My bad, Felicia, you know that I love you. You gotta stop making me act like this.”

“Nah, I don’t have to stop making you do anything. This is the last time that I’m going to tell you to leave. As far as TJ is concerned, I will let the courts handle that.”

Stepping back, Terrence lost the edge when he spoke, “I will leave because I can see that I have upset you. We will talk when you calm down. And you aren’t taking my son from me, so don’t do anything stupid.”

As Felicia stood and said nothing, Terrence continued to back towards the door. Once at the door, he turned and let himself out without another word. Only time would tell if he really got what Felicia had said to him. For now, at least he was gone and Felicia was still standing.

For the Love of Felicia (Part 6)

While Felicia entered her home, Jessica waited outside with their baby boys. Even though there was no sign of Terrence’s car, that didn’t mean that he wasn’t parked around the corner; he had done that before. Felicia could only hope that he wasn’t there. Terrence has a tendency to have a temper if things were not going his way. Felicia not responding to him would most certainly be something not going his way.

As Felicia slowly walked inside, she called out for Terrence. “Terrence, are you here? Terrence…”

Even though she heard nothing, Felicia continued to look around her home. Her bedroom was the last place that she needed to check. About to breathe a sigh of relief as she was standing in her room, Terrence stepped out from the master bathroom, almost scaring her to death.

“Where the hell have you been?” Terrence yelled at the frightened Felicia.

Stuttering, Felicia barely responded, “I…I…I was out with Jessica. I stayed the night…”

Before Felicia could finish, Terrence lunged forward and slapped Felicia on the left side of her face. “Nah, you were out with another dude! There is no way you would ignore my calls if you were just with Jessica! I already told you about disrespecting me!” Terrence continued to yell, ignoring the fact that Felicia was crying and that the whole left side of her face was starting to puff up.

“Terrence, baby, you know I would never mess around on you! Baby, please! I promise you that I was with Jessica!” Felicia pleaded between tears.

“And where the hell is my son? I know you didn’t have him around someone else!” Terrence seemed to be ignoring everything that Felicia was saying to him.

“He is outside with Jessica. I will tell her to go so we can talk. Let me straighten this out with you!”

“Nah, go get my son and tell her to get on! She was probably helping you cheat on me. We both know how she feels about me!”

“Terrence, please! It would be better if it was just me and you here!”

“Alright, alright! Cuz, clearly, I need to make you understand how important it is to respect me!” Before Felicia could get out of the room, Terrence grabbed her by the neck, with both of his hands, applying enough pressure to make it difficult for her to breathe. “And you better not do anything crazy like call the police on me when you go out there! In fact, I will be right there with you! Let’s go!”

Terrence took Felicia by the arm and practically dragged her to the door. Not passing the threshold, Terrence waved to Jessica as he maintained his grip on Felicia’s arm. “Hey, Jessica, how are you doing?” he asked sounding genuinely interested.

Hesitantly, Jessica responded, “I’m good. Are you guys ok?”

“Yeah, girl,” said Felicia calmly, “you know we have some things to talk about, but we are good. Would you mind taking TJ back home with you? I can pick him up tomorrow, if that’s not a problem.”

“You know I got lil TJ. I got you too, Felicia. Just let me know!” Jessica exclaimed with a little edge to her voice this time. She wasn’t stupid and knew that something was wrong with her friend.

“We’re good, Jessica. I will call you later and come by tomorrow.”

Before Jessica could respond, Terrence pulled Felicia back into the house and shut the door. Felicia knew that the night was just getting started with Terrence. She didn’t know how much longer she could take his antics. If she survived the night, Felicia was finally going to have to do something for her and her son’s sake.

For the Love of Felicia (Part 5)

Once their food arrived, the two best friends headed to Jessica’s house. After devouring their Cuban feast, the two reminisced about the past and dreamed about the future. By the time the sun rose, Jessica and Felicia had finished a bottle of wine and quite a bit of junk food, to include Doritos and Goobers. As the rest of Miami was waking up to start a new day, they fell asleep to rest from a long night.

Waking up in the late afternoon, the woman felt more refreshed than hung over from their night of drinking. Jessica was ready to start harassing Felicia again on her intentions with Sergio. “What you gonna do with that fine man, Felicia?”

“Dang, you can’t even let me go a day without bothering me about him? He was very nice on the eyes though!”

Sergio stood at about 6’2”, with very fair skin and light brown eyes. From a distance, he could pass for being white. His hair was cut in a taper fade, showing off his thick, curly, reddish-brown hair; it showed proof of his African ancestry. Sergio’s body told the story of a man who spent some time in the gym, working on his chiseled physique. Sergio could have been on the cover of GQ from his looks alone.

“So when are you going to call him?” Jessica asked.

“Ok, you know I ain’t thirsty like that! Maybe I will answer when he calls,” Felicia responded while rolling her eyes.

“Dealing with Terrence, you need to be thirsty!”

“Shut up, Jess! But I see your point.”

“What you got planned for the rest of your weekend, besides waiting on Sergio’s call?”

“Haha, you are so funny! I don’t even know. Terrence will probably stop by. Other than that, whatever is whatever.” Sighing, Felicia went on to say, “I know that I do need to get up right now though, get little man together and make my way back home. That means that you need to get up too since you’re my ride.”

“Well, in that case, we should take the kids to get some dinner before I fulfill my chauffeur duties and take you home.”

“If there’s food involved, you know I’m down!”

On their way to get something to eat, Felicia checked her phone for the first time since last night. “Oh lawd! Jessica, I think I’m going to need to go straight home!”

Concerned, Jessica asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Terrence has been blowing me up since this morning. He even went by the house and of course I wasn’t there. Girl, you know he is mad as hell right now!” Felicia was nervous and fidgeting in her seat at this point.

“Look, I need you to calm down. If Terrence is already mad, then he will continue to be mad. We are still going to get something to eat because the boys have to eat. That will give you time to relax before having to deal with his dumb tail.”

“Jessica, you my sis and everything, but I’m not trying to get you involved with my mess. This is something that I have to deal with for real this time.”

“Exactly! I’m your sis so I will be there for you no matter what the issue is. Like I said, let’s feed the boys then we will go to your house. By then, he may not even be there. Until then, don’t even respond to him.”

“Trust me, I’m not!”

For the Love of Felicia (Part 4)

The small, outdoor Cuban restaurant wasn’t located too far from their current location. Once at the restaurant, the women found a table that was at the edge of the sand. From there, they could hear the waves of the ocean in between the Afro-Cuban jazz music that was being played by a band. Both women immediately started looking at their menus as soon as they sat down.

As they looked through the menus, a man approached their table. “Hello, ladies! I saw you at the bar down the street and just wanted to come by to say hello to such beautiful women!”

Looking up, Jessica spoke first, saying, “Well hello to you also! And thank you for the compliment. You don’t look too bad yourself.”

The tall, fair-skinned man, with a hint of a Latin-American accent, responded, “Thank you! May I ask your name? My name is Sergio.”

“Sergio…I like that name. Well, my name is Jessica. And my friend, who is acting completely uninterested…please excuse her rudeness,” Jessica said clearing her throat. “This is my rude friend, Felicia. Felicia, please say hello to our visitor.”

Finally glancing up from her menu, Felicia said, “Hello.” As she was about to look back down at her menu, she became transfixed on the male specimen standing in front of her. “Wha…what did you say your name was?”

“My name is Sergio,” he said smiling, showing all of his perfectly straight, white teeth. “I don’t want to take up too much more of your time, so do you think I could get your number and call you sometime?” Sergio asked while looking at Felicia.

Before she could answer, Jessica spoke up saying, “Yes, she will give you her number and get yours in return.” Jessica grabbed Felicia’s phone that was sitting on the table, and handed it to Sergio to input his information.

“Thank you,” Sergio said. “And thank you for your help, Jessica. You ladies enjoy the rest of your night. Felicia, I plan to use your number so I hope you plan on answering when I do.”

“We will see,” Felicia replied with a shy smile.

After Sergio left their presence, Jessica couldn’t hold back anymore. “Girl, Sergio is fine as hell! And so polite! Don’t do anything stupid, like not answer!”

“Don’t you think I’m already dealing with enough? How would it look if I started talking to someone when I’m begging Terrence to get right?”

“It would look like you finally came to your senses and decided to focus on someone who could be available to love you the way you deserve to be loved.”

“Ok, but when that happens, it would have to be with someone with a little color to him. How would I look on the arm of a white man?”

Laughing and faintly shaking her head, Jessica said, “First of all, you would be fine. Second of all, Sergio is far from white. And I would think that you would not be concerned with that mess. Since when did you become focused on melanated levels? He comes from the same place we do.”

“Ok, for real I’m not. You already know what it is.”

“Forget about Terrence! Can we work on that? Maybe Sergio can work that out of you.”

“Shut up, Jessica!” Felicia laughed. “I’m getting tired. Let’s get our food and go. I’m ready to crash on your firm pillow-top mattress!”

For the Love of Felicia (Part 3)

“Since you seem to have everything planned out, go get your nephew together while I pack my bag. You already know where all his stuff is, so do your aunty duties.”

While Felicia went to her room to get her things for the night, Jessica started packing up some stuff for baby TJ. It didn’t take long for the two to finish and head out for the night. Felicia even decided to ride with Jessica so that she would not try to end her night early. Now she would be at the mercy of her best friend, which she probably needed. The two best friends had not been out in over a year. Who knew what was going to happen with this first night of freedom?

After dropping off little TJ with Jessica’s mother and sister, the two women got ready for their night of fun in vibrant Miami. Having decided to go a local bar facing South Miami Beach, Felicia and Jessica kept their outfits simple, both donning sundresses. Felicia’s sundress sported a pattern of flowers, in various shades of purple, on an off-white colored fabric. The dress accentuated her slim frame and small curves. Tonight, she wore her natural hair in twists, instead of covering it with a wig.

While Felicia’s dress was on the subtle side of fashion, Jessica went with bolder colors of red, orange, green, and blue designs on her dress. As usual, Jessica made sure her afro was full blown while beautifully framing her chocolate face. She wore large, gold hoop earrings that could be seen through her thick afro. Jessica was dressed and excited for a night out with her best friend.

The two women enjoyed their time drinking tourist cocktails while people-watching along South Miami Beach. There was a live band at the bar playing reggaeton, which had many of the bar patrons on their feet dancing. Interrupting the people-watching, Jessica said, “Look at all these good-looking men out here! We have rainbow heaven!”

“Maybe you should snatch one up so you’re not so focused on my love life or lack of it,” Felicia responded while laughing.

“How about we both get ourselves one of these fine-looking specimens out here? There is definitely plenty to go around!”

“Yeah, but not after you get to know them. Some of them are already in relationships. Been there, and still there. Some of them are probably gay. Some of them are here on their friend’s dime…no job, no house, no nothing,” Felicia stated.

Sounding more positive about the prospects, Jessica countered with, “Yep, then there are those who have all of that, plus a heart of gold. There are some out there who will make you their world and love you exactly as you need and want to be loved. But how will we know if we don’t try?”

“Sounds good. Since we don’t have that, let’s get some more drinks.”

The best friends continued drinking and watching the people around them. Neither of them made a move away from their table. Though there were guys who gave them looks, both women acted as if they were uninterested. They were happy to be enjoying the Miami air and live music. Felicia and Jessica stayed at the bar until about 2am, when they decided it was time to move on to another spot.

“Where do you want to go now?” Felicia asked Jessica.

“I know a nice Cuban restaurant that stays open til about sunrise. We can get some good Cuban food there. Plus they have good drinks and music too.”

“I’m hungry so I’m down.”

For the Love of Felicia (Part 2)

In fact, Felicia Daniels was quite beautiful. She was about 5’9”, weighing 160 pounds, with the smoothest dark, brown skin ever. She had the ability to mesmerize everyone with her brown hazel eyes. As slim as Felicia was, she still had a nice, round booty that was just right for squeezing. Though Felicia had natural hair, she sometimes wore wigs to switch up her style, depending on how she was feeling.

As much as Jessica Acosta boosted the ego of her friend, Felicia, she was just as stunning. Jessica, a native Cuban who came to the United States with her family at the young age of two years, had a smooth skin tone that was just as chocolatey rich as that of Felicia’s. They could, and often did, pass for sisters. Jessica was only a few inches shorter, standing at 5’7”, and also slim, weighing about 150 pounds. Her glass, brown eyes were as hypnotic as watching a pendulum. Jessica never covered her natural afro that she wore in various styles.

“Jessica, stop gassing me up!” Felicia said playfully. “You know them men folk be coming after you just as hard. Stop acting like you’re an old maid. We are the same darn age and I’m definitely not an old maid!”

“Now, I never said all that,” Jessica responded laughing, “but a kid will do that to you. You end up putting so much energy into making sure he is good, that you have no time for the games or trying to figure out if the relationship will be worth it.”

“You’re a great mother who deserves to have someone take care of you. Jacob is lucky to have you as his mother. Now get him a man to be around on a regular basis.”

“Girl, please! I will not find someone just to appease society and their version of a complete family. Jacob has plenty of uncles in his life who are doing well in showing his eight-year old butt how to be a man. Better that, then being stuck with the wrong man.”

Rolling her eyes, Felicia said, “You really had to throw that in there. I get it, girl, I do. Deep down, I know that I’m in one of those stereotypical hood relationships. Give me time to let go. I will when I’m ready.”

“I’m here for you no matter what you decide to do. Always remember that TJ is counting on you to make good decisions for his life.”

“I know, I know. Now can we talk about something else? All this relationship mess has me feeling some kind of way.”

Excited, Jessica exclaimed, “A great idea! And I have another wonderful idea! We should go out! When is the last time we went out? Go listen to some soca, reggaeton, afrobeat, something. We are in Miami where life never stops! Let’s live!”

Trying to match Jessica’s excitement, Felicia said, “It sounds good to me! But wait, what about the boys?”

“You know TJ can go to my mom’s house with Jacob. My lil sister will help out. We can take her shopping for payment.”

“Ok, but what about…”

Cutting off Felicia in mid-sentence, Jessica said, “What about what? How about what about nothing? You aren’t worrying about Terrence because he isn’t worrying about you. TJ will be fine at my mom’s. All you have to do is find something to wear, pack a bag and come with me. You’re staying at my house tonight.”

For the Love of Felicia (Part 1)

“Terrence, why do you have to leave? When are you going to move in with me and your baby boy?”

“Why do you do this every time I come over?” Terrence asked. “You about to make me stop coming over here at all, Felicia!” he said sounding irritated.

Attempting to ease the tension that was created, Felicia softly responded, “I’m sorry, baby. It’s just that I miss you when you’re gone and I’m ready for us to be a family. You know how much I love you. And your son needs you around on a consistent basis.”

Walking up and leaning down to kiss Felicia on the forehead, Terrence said, “I love both of you too. You already know what I’m dealing with. Don’t pressure me as if I don’t want to be here. I gotta go. I will be back soon.”

“Ok, Terrence,” Felicia sadly replied. She reached out to grab Terrence for a hug but he quickly walked to the front door and left.

With Terrence gone, Felicia went to check on her 7-month old son, Terrence Hakim Jones, Jr., named after his 32-year old father. TJ was happily playing with the toys on his play mat, in his playpen, oblivious to the reckless behavior of his parents. As Felicia watched TJ play, she wondered when Terrence would be back again. She never knew when he was coming until he showed up. Sometimes he would be there every day of the week, then other times he would stay gone for weeks at a time.

Before Felicia could completely zone out, her cell phone started ringing. She grabbed it from the kitchen counter and answered it once she saw who it was. “Hey, girl. How are you doing?”

“I think I’m doing better than you sound,” her best friend Jessica responded. “What’s wrong with you? Or do I even have to ask?”

“Girl, you already know. Terrence just left,” Felicia miserably said.

“For real, when are you going to leave his butt alone? He was no good when you started messing with him and still no good. Just because you guys had my beautiful nephew, TJ, that doesn’t make him good now.”

“But he said that what me and him have is different from what he is used to going through. And the way he treats me, I believe him.”

“Which is part of your problem, Felicia. How is it different? How does he treat you? He goes home to a long-time girlfriend and their three kids. Aside from her, he has two other kids by two other women. Who knows how many more are out there? You should have never gotten involved with him. Just because you have a kid, that doesn’t mean you have to stay with this dude. Well, you ain’t even together, so I really don’t know what you are doing.”

All Felicia could ask was, “Why are you always lecturing me?” Deep down, she knew that her best friend’s words were true.

“Because I love you, girl! You know you’re the sister I never had! Besides, you’re young, only 28-years old, beautiful, and all of these ELIGIBLE men knocking at your door. I’m waiting for you to get some sense and leave Terrence alone. Get your child support order and run!” Jessica started laughing at her own words.
