Status…It’s Complicated (Part 10)

As Toni moved out of the way for the law enforcement officers to come through the front door, Natasha was being ushered back into the living room by more officers. “What did you do, Natasha?” Toni was pleading to know.

“All that I did, I did for us, baby! I told you that I love you and would do anything for us! Do you believe me now?” Natasha asked looking a bit deranged.

One of the plain clothes officers removed the now crying Devin from her arms before placing her in handcuffs and reading Natasha her rights. “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney, and to have an attorney present during any questioning. Do you understand these rights?”

Natasha whispered, “Yes.”

“Natasha, what did you do? Did you kill Bryan?” Toni begged to know.

Softly, Natasha responded, “I didn’t kill him, but I did make him suffer.” Natasha started to laugh.

One of the officers explained to Toni that some of the charges against Natasha were kidnapping and assault and battery. Apparently, after Natasha physically satisfied herself and Bryan, she drugged him just enough so that he couldn’t fight back. Once he was subdued, she handcuffed his naked body to the bed. While handcuffed, she carved “Release Me” into his chest, along with her initials “N. S.”

If that wasn’t enough craziness and thoughtless planning, Natasha left Bryan’s cell phone within reach of his handcuffed hand; she wanted him to be able to call if he wanted something. Of course Bryan called the police. If Natasha was lucky, she would get a nice stay in a mental institution for her apparent psychotic break.

With Natasha gone, in the custody of law enforcement, and baby Devin taken back to his father, Toni sat to gather her thoughts. Her emotions were all over the place, from happy to distraught, to not even caring. She had to talk about it with someone, so she grabbed her cell to call Ashanti.

“What’s up, sexy?” Ashanti asked when she answered the phone.

“You won’t even believe what happened!”

“If it has anything to do with Natasha, then I probably can’t.”

Toni explained what had transpired, which momentarily left Ashanti speechless on the other end of the phone call. “Say something, Ashanti. I know you have something to say.”

“I mean, I’m trying to be serious, but, ummm, I told you that Natasha was crazy,” Ashanti said laughing uncontrollably. “You need to be more selective of the company you keep.”

“Damn, you couldn’t even give me 24 hours before you told me that you were right?” Toni was laughing as she asked the question.

“Seriously, I’m happy that no one was really hurt. It could have been much worse. Look at this way…you have been released!” Ashanti couldn’t help herself.

“Such a freakin’ comedian! I’ma let you slide…for now. On to more pressing issues…you know I need some consoling right now. Spending some more time with you will make me feel better about my release.”

“Ashanti always has you when you need me. Come on.”

Status…It’s Complicated (Part 9)

When Toni pulled into her garage, she knew that Natasha was home because her BMW was parked on the left side as usual. Toni figured that Natasha was trying to prove a point by not calling at all while she was out. Whatever the reason, she didn’t plan to stick around too long to find out. Toni just wanted to make sure Natasha was still alive and grab a few things before going back to Ashanti.

Natasha was standing in the kitchen when Toni walked in. She looked like she had recently taken a shower because her hair was wet. Then again, it was kind of strange, given the fact that she had a standing weekly hair appointment. Before thinking about it any further, Toni said, “What’s up, Natasha?”

“Hey, baby, how was your night?” Natasha asked sounding as if all things were good between them.

A little hesitant, Toni responded, “It was good. How was yours?”

“I had a good time. I had time to think about all that you said.”

“Oh yeah? What did you think about?”

“I know why you’re so weary of fully committing to me. I get that I have been saying for a couple of years now, that I was going to end things with Bryan so that we could become one. I really love you and don’t want to lose you,” Natasha said grinning from ear to ear.

Noticing how happy Natasha appeared, Toni asked, “Why are you so happy?”

Walking up to grab Toni’s forearms, Natasha kissed her on the lips then said, “I am really in love with you and have finally started doing what I need to so that we can always be together. And…I have a surprise for you!”

Still unsure of how to react, Toni cautiously asked, “What is the surprise?”

Skipping like a school girl, Natasha pulled Toni by the hand and led her to the living room. Sleeping on the couch was her baby boy, Devin. In the few years that they had been living together, Toni could count on one hand how many times Bryan allowed Devin to come over. Something was up, and Toni wanted to know what it was.

“Obviously, you talked to Bryan. So how long is Devin here? For the day?” Toni questioned.

“He is here with us forever! The three of us are going to be a happy family!”

“So Bryan just let you take Devin all of a sudden? Why do I find that hard to believe?”

“I put my foot down, baby! I put my foot down for our love! So now we have Devin and will be a family!”

“Come on now, Natasha. How is this possible? I can’t believe that he would give in after how things have been.”

“Baby, I told you that I would do anything for you. Don’t you remember when I said that?”

“Yeah, but you always saying that. What did you do, Natasha?” Toni asked starting to get scared to hear the truth.

Before Natasha could answer, there was loud banging on the front door. It was so loud, that Devin woke up. Natasha snatched Devin up from the couch and started to run back through the kitchen to the garage. Confused, Toni went to open the front door. All kinds of scenarios started playing through her head as she stared at law enforcement officers in uniform and plain clothes.

Status…It’s Complicated (Part 8)

Sleepily waking up a little after noon, Toni and Ashanti ordered room service to replenish their expended nutrients. While waiting for their food to arrive, they stretched, untangling their bodies only for Toni to pull Ashanti back into her embrace. “Where do you think you’re going?” Toni playfully asked Ashanti.

Covering her mouth, Ashanti answered, “I was going to put some toothpaste in this mouth. Didn’t want my breath to knock you back out.”

“You know I care nothing about a little morning breath.”

“Because you’re nasty,” Ashanti said laughing.

“Give me a kiss and maybe I will let you go.”

Obliging Toni’s request, Ashanti gave her a quick kiss on the lips before pulling free to go into the bathroom.

As Toni watched her walk away, she spoke, “Thank you for another wonderful night. Maybe we will have another tonight.”

“All of the time I spend with you is great. As for tonight…you better check in with your girl first. I’m surprised she wasn’t blowing up your cell.”

Looking at her phone, Toni said, “I didn’t even think about that, but you’re right; she didn’t call me once since I dropped her off.”

“Now that shit ain’t normal, Toni. Then again, she could be doing the same thing you’re doing now.”

“And if she is, good for her!”

“As much as you may act like you don’t care, you love that woman.”

“Nah, I have love for her. You’re the one I love. But you playing. Leave that dude alone and let us happen.”

Before getting into the shower, Ashanti casually responded, “Not happening and not discussing it.”

“We will see,” Toni replied.

After Ashanti showered and dressed, Toni did the same. Toni joined Ashanti for the meal that was delivered to their room. As they nibbled on their food, conversation continued to flow. Toni asked, “What do you want to do today? We both know Marcus isn’t looking for you.”

“Shut up, Toni,” Ashanti said rolling her eyes. “For all we know, Natasha is waiting at your car or outside our door right now.”

“Stop playing!” To be on the safe side, Toni opened the room door to look down the hall, only after looking through the peephole. This made both of them laugh.

Seeing that Natasha wasn’t stalking their room, Toni said, “For real though, I may need to go home to make sure she good. But after that, we can do a little shopping, catch a movie, a bite to eat, then come back here to spend some more quality time.”

“That’s fine with me. I guess I can stop by my house and get some things. I had only planned for one night and I don’t know why, considering how greedy of my time you are.”

“I don’t either. You already know how we do. Help me finish this food so we can go. I don’t want to be out of your presence that long.”

“See, that’s what I’m talking about,” Ashanti said laughing. “You want all of my time. Thankfully for you, I find it kind of flattering.”

Natasha picked up her cell phone to call Toni, but decided against it. She didn’t want to make things any more tense between the two of them. Instead, she scrolled through her call log until she found Bryan’s name. Hesitating for a few seconds, she finally touched the call button and waited for him to answer.

After a few rings, Bryan answered saying, “Now tell me why in the world you would be calling me this early in the morning. You do realize that it’s about 2:00a.m.”

“I do…and I apologize if I woke you, but I need to talk to you.”

“Oh, this better be good! If you’re still talking about divorce, custody, or any other nonsense, I’m telling you now to go ahead and hang up.”

“No, Bryan. That’s not it at all…,” Ashanti trailed off, not yet ready to finish her thoughts.

“Come on, woman, tell me what the hell you want then,” Bryan said sounding irritated. “I’m not giving you any more money! You have to come home for that!”

Regaining her composure to speak, Natasha said, “Look, Bryan. I’m ready to come to home. I’m ready to be your wife again.”

Laughing, Bryan asked, “What happened? Did your girl leave you? Did she get tired of your lazy ass?”

“No, baby, it’s nothing like that. I see where I went wrong and am very sorry for walking away from my family. I miss you and Devin.”

“So I’m your baby again?” Enjoying the sound of defeat in Natasha, Bryan continued, “You do know that you owe me for your infidelity. I’m not going to make it easy for you because you hurt me.”

Sounding desperate, Natasha responded, “Yes, I completely understand. But I’m willing to do whatever it takes to regain your heart and your trust.”

“We will see about that. When are you coming back?”

“I want to come home right now. I can always come back and get my things later.”

“Nah, once you leave, you aren’t going back. Leave all of that stuff there! It’s been contaminated by your whorish behavior.”

Speaking softly, Natasha said, “Ok, baby. And I’m so sorry. I’m on my way home, baby.” Before Bryan could respond, Natasha ended the call. She left the house in the Victoria’s Secret jogger and t-shirt that she had changed into. She jumped into her dark blue seven-series BMW and drove away from the home that she shared with Toni. Even though Natasha had the urge to call Toni, she didn’t. Instead, she concentrated on making her way to Bryan.

Arriving at her home, Natasha had to ring the doorbell, as she no longer had keys. Bryan opened the door before she could press the bell a second time. “You got here fast.”

“I didn’t want to waste any more time being away from you and our baby boy.”

“You couldn’t have missed us too much or you wouldn’t have stayed gone this long. I still want to know what made you change your mind just like that.”

“Bryan, baby, I told you…I never should have left. I love you and miss you.” Getting close enough to kiss his lips, Natasha said, “Let me show you how sorry I am,” as she pushed her way past Bryan, and into the house.

Status…It’s Complicated (Part 6)

Once Toni checked into the king suite in the five-star hotel, for a possible two-night stay, she proceeded to roll up a few cones with weed and place them on a nightstand. It was routine for her and Ashanti to smoke during their time together. It seemed to make the entire experience more intense and open. After rolling up, she made two drinks of Jack and ginger ale. Toni would not drink until her and Ashanti made a toast.

Before Toni could become impatient, Ashanti entered the room with the key she retrieved from the front desk. “You have my drink ready?” Ashanti asked.

“Damn, no hello, kiss, nothing?” Toni playfully asked.

“Hello,” Ashanti responded as she went to give Toni a kiss.

“That’s much better. Thank you!”

“You’re welcome. Now can I please have my drink?”

“Anything for you, my love.” Toni handed Ashanti her glass and raised hers so that they could toast. “Here is to a wonderful evening, with a beautiful chocolate woman.”

“So sweet! A different time and I may have made you marry me.”

“You still can. I think that Ashanti Cook has a nice ring to it. Besides, I seriously doubt your gay boy Marcus is really trying to tie you down for life.”

“Yeah, well you already know how I feel about all of that. We both know the things that will never be. Besides, why change up a good thing? All love doesn’t have to be publicized.”

“I wouldn’t mind going public with my love for you. You’re that woman! It doesn’t hurt to keep letting you know how I feel. Maybe one day. You can’t predict our future.”

“How do you know?” Ashanti asked smiling. “I can tell you what’s about to happen tonight.”

Sipping her drink, Toni asked, “What do you think is about to happen?”

As she turned so that Toni could unzip her dress, Ashanti slowly and intentionally spoke, “You’re going to make me forget about any woes that I may have. Then you’re going to sit, laugh, smoke, and drink with me. We will talk about the futures that we know will never happen, but sound so good. You and I are going to enjoy the company of one another as we make up our own reality.”

“All of that sounds so good!” Toni said as she lit one of the cones. She inhaled a few times and then passed it to Ashanti. “I do think that you’re wrong about futures never happening. We can make them happen if we want to.”

“Toni, you’re so optimistic and I love that about you. That is only part of the evening I predicted though.”

“We just gettin’ started my sweet love!” As Ashanti predicted, the night was filled with the two of them enjoying each other on a mental, physical, and spiritual plane. They laughed and even cried a little, while in the presence of each other. This went on until there was nothing more to drink or smoke and eyes could no longer stay open. They fell asleep in the early hours of the morning, entangled in each other’s embrace.

Toni and Ashanti went inside to rejoin Marcus and Natasha. After a few more drinks, the two couples parted ways and headed home. While on the ride home, Natasha started talking to Toni as she stared out of the window. “I know that you and Ashanti have something going on. Why don’t you tell me so that I can stop making up stories in my head?”

Nonchalantly, Toni replied, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“But you do know what I’m talking about. I see how you guys look at each other and interact.”

“Natasha, how do I look at her different from anyone else?” Toni asked sounding more inquisitive than guilty.

“You look at her as if she is the most beautiful woman in the world. Ashanti, the Black Goddess, educator, witty…your everything…”

Paying attention to the road, and still nonchalant, Toni said, “As long as you have a husband, you shouldn’t be concerned about how I look at anyone.”

“I told you that I’m handling that situation! Please give me time to get it together.” Turning to Toni, Natasha pleaded, “Please believe that I love you so much, baby. There is nothing that I wouldn’t do to prove my love for you.”

Still unfazed, Toni responded by saying, “The only way you can prove your love to me is if you get Bryan out of your life. Other than that, I don’t need anything else.”

“Baby, I promise I will take care of it. Just be patient and stick with me.” Natasha reached over and softly kissed Toni on her cheek.

Toni continued to drive in silence. It was not until she pulled into the garage that she spoke. “Hey, umm…you can go in the house. I’ma go back out to clear my head.”

“Where are you going?”

“I already told you…to clear my head. Are you gonna get out of my car?”

“The car I bought for you? Yeah, I’m getting out. I know that you’re going back to her. Tell Ashanti that I said hello.”

Laughing, Toni responded, “Ok, Natasha. I will see you when I get back.”

Natasha reluctantly exited the car. As she did, Toni mumbled, “About time.”

Once back on the road, Toni picked up her phone to make a call. “Hey, you! I know it’s almost midnight, but I want to see you.”

“You know I always have time for you. Marcus is locked up in his office anyway. Probably video chatting with one of his dudes,” replied Ashanti.

Laughing, Toni said, “Cool. He needs to get his just like you get yours. Meet me at the spot. I will probably be there before you, so ask for a key at the front desk.”

“Alright. I’m leaving my house in about five minutes. Roll up and make us some drinks.”

“Anything for your sexy ass!”

“I don’t know about you doing anything, but it sounds good,” Ashanti said laughing. “Get off the phone so I can leave.”

“Ok, ok. See you soon!” Toni said before ending the call. She had to make a quick stop at the 24-hour corner store to grab a bottle before continuing her journey to the hotel. Natasha was nowhere to be found in the thoughts that were dancing in her mind.

Toni and Ashanti Williams had met through their work towards equality in school funding. When they met about four years ago, both were teachers struggling to educate their students on a limited budget. Just as Toni had become a principal, Ashanti was now a principal at a middle school in the same district.

Even though Ashanti was in a committed relationship to Marcus Thomas, that didn’t stop the secret relationship between her and Toni. From the first time they met, Toni was instantly attracted to the 5’8”, kissed by the sun, rich chocolate, special dark, thin Ashanti, with the hazel eyes. At the time, Toni was single so she didn’t care what Ashanti had going on, as long as she fit somewhere in her life.

In the back seat of Ashanti’s Tahoe, Toni had positioned her lengthwise along the seat. Access to Ashanti’s treasure box was easy for Toni because Ashanti was wearing a sundress. After sliding her bikini panties down her long legs, Toni quickly delighted Ashanti by satisfying the sweet spot between her thighs.

“My body loves how you do it,” Ashanti gasped, trying to catch her breath.

“And I love doing it to your sexy body!” Toni said as she sat up in the seat.

“When are you going to leave Natasha? You know she isn’t what you want. Besides that, you said yourself that you know she is still fuckin’ with her husband.”

“Ok, leave her and do what? She is cool and her money is cooler! Less stress on my pockets,” Toni laughed.

“What about your true happiness? You would make a good wife to someone really deserving of your love,” Ashanti said as she cleaned up with some wipes from her glove compartment.

“I could say the same thing to you. Why are you still with Marcus? You know damn well that his ass is gayer than me. You guys don’t even have sex. Who is fooling who? Live and be your real self.”

“It’s not that simple and you know it. Look how much harder you have to fight to get what you want because you are open with your beautiful gayness.”

“Yeah, but at the end of the day, it’s worth the fight. There will be people to overlook that and see my genuine desire to help our kids.”

Ashanti replied, “We are all messed up in our own way, some happen to be a little more than others. So you know, I think your girl is on the extreme side of messed up.”

“What do you mean by that?”

“A person with so many secrets is capable of doing some crazy things! And you know she is crazy in love with you and fuckin’ her husband for the money, which she gives to you.”

“Nah, she isn’t crazy. A little, well a lot messed up though.”

“What’s the difference? Come on, you don’t even acknowledge her child. Both of you are in this weird, dysfunctional type of relationship for whatever reasons. You act like you all in love to keep the money flowing, but you sitting here with me, in the back seat of my truck.” Ashanti giggled a little and said, “Damn, we are some fucked up individuals. Yes, I know Marcus is gay, but he is a good arm piece; we look like a power couple. Shit, I’m gay too, so who am I to judge?”

“Yeah, I can vouch for your gayness!” declared Toni. “Let’s go back inside before they finally get a clue.”

Status…It’s Complicated (Part 3)

“Love is irrelevant if your actions aren’t showing it too,” Toni said as she loosened up to the touches of Natasha. Something about being under the flow of soothingly hot water and being touched in all of the right places. “You gotta show me how you love me. How long do you think I’m supposed to wait for you to get your shit together?”

As Natasha got down on her knees, still in her bra and jeans, she softly said, “I’m taking care of it, baby. Please don’t worry. We will be good when it’s all said and done. We will be one happy family…me, you, and my baby boy, Devin.”

“We will see,” was all that Toni could get out as she was being pleasured by Natasha.

Once out of the shower, Toni and Natasha still decided to go out for a few drinks and meet up with some friends. It was a Friday night, so a good time to decompress for the weekend. Even though the shower sex was a nice release, the two dressed in silence, as the thoughts of Natasha’s situation lingered in the air.

Dressed in some light-colored, slim-fitting jeans, Lacoste polo shirt, and Sperry Top-Sider’s on her feet, Toni was ready for the casual evening. Natasha complimented her look wearing a short denim dress and a pair of Louboutin heels. Still not speaking to one another, Toni took Natasha’s hand as they walked into the bar and grill to meet their friends.

“What’s up, Marcus and Ashanti?” Toni asked as she greeted her friends at the table.

“Hey! Didn’t think you guys were going to make it out,” Ashanti replied.

“You know we weren’t going to miss some quality time with our friends,” Natasha said.

“Good, because I already ordered our first go round!” Marcus happily said.

“Here we go,” said his wife Ashanti. After this week of battling for school funding, me and Toni could definitely use some drinks!”

As Toni and Ashanti high-fived, Toni responded, “Yes! Keep the drinks comin’!”

Natasha chimed in, “Yes, let’s keep the drinks flowing, but no more of this work talk! Time to relax!”

Ashanti and Toni eyed each other, then proceeded to gulp down their drinks of vodka and pineapple juice, heavy on the vodka. “Since we can’t talk about work at the table, let me holla at you for a second,” Toni said to Ashanti.

“You guys can’t get enough of work,” sighed Marcus. “You would think principals were the saviors of the free world. Hurry up! Me and Natasha will start round two without you.”

“Go ahead,” Ashanti said as her and Toni got up and walked outside, leaving their significant others at the table.

Ashanti and Toni walked to the side of the bar where they were out of sight from those coming and going. “You know I missed you!” Ashanti said to Toni as she leaned up to kiss her on the lips.

“Not as much as I missed you!” responded Toni.

Laughing, Ashanti said, “For real though, you know it was just this morning that you were all up in this!” Ashanti was rubbing between her thighs.

“Clearly, that was too long ago. I need you all the time.”

The two continued to hug and kiss on each other as if they were the only ones in the world, with no fear of being seen. “Let’s go to car for round two,” suggested Toni.

Once inside of the bedroom, Toni started to undress Natasha. She started by pulling her flowery blouse over her head, leaving Natasha in her bra and tight denim jeans. As she was about to undo the buttons on Natasha’s jeans, Natasha’s cell phone started to chime with a familiar ringtone.

“You better not answer that!” Toni firmly stated.

“Baby, you know that I have to. Give me a second,” pleaded Natasha.

“Do what you’re gonna do! I’m going to take a shower.” Toni stomped into their bathroom and slammed the door.

“I’m so sorry,” Natasha apologetically said as she went to answer her phone, knowing that Toni was no longer listening to her.

Answering her phone, Natasha asked irritated, “What do you want Bryan?”

“Well hello to you too, wife of mine. I was just calling to see if you had finally come to your senses and had decided to ask for my forgiveness so that you could return to your family,” Bryan said in a matter-of-fact manner.

“You know that isn’t happening. I don’t even love you! Why would you want to be with me? You weren’t even nice to me.”

“It isn’t about that. We were mean to each other. But that didn’t mean that you had to run off with some manly woman. You aren’t even gay! That’s probably why she looks like a guy.”

“Stop it, Bryan! I am what I am!”

“You know that you get nothing from me if we get a divorce. Are you willing to risk that? You haven’t worked a day in your life. Does your manly girlfriend plan to take care of you?”

“I can take care of myself, as I have been for a while. There is nothing that I need from you. Me and Toni are good!”

“Ok, so then why were you fucking me the other day? Does Toni know about that?”

“You know what that was,” Natasha said in a whisper. “I was having a moment of weakness. It won’t happen again.”

Laughing, Bryan said, “We will see. You and I both know how much you love this big, black…”

“I’m hanging up now! Don’t call me again!” Natasha yelled as she ended the call.

After getting off the phone, Natasha went to the bathroom to try to soothe Toni. Talking to Toni through the shower door, she said, “Toni, come on…you know that I am doing all that I can.”

Angrily, Toni responds, “You aren’t doing enough! This is why I don’t mess with straight women! It’s been two years and you’re telling me it’s that complicated that you aren’t divorced yet?”

“Baby, you know I don’t like labels. I told you that it would be complicated. We have a child together, and plus there is the issue with my parents.”

“About that, how is it that your parents don’t even know about our relationship? Aren’t you a little old to be hiding shit like that?”

“I will lose my inheritance if I do. You know that they are devout Catholics.”

“Maybe it’s time that you got a job. Fuck depending on your parents. Live your life!”

“You say that so easy, yet you benefit from their money too. How does that new Mercedes ride?”

“Fuck you, Natasha! You can have it and your husband! Let me find out you and him still fuckin’!”

Pulling the shower door open, Natasha gets in the shower with her bra and pants still on. “Do you know how much I love you?” she asks Toni as she begins caressing her wet body.

Status…It’s Complicated (Part 1)

“Well, what happened? How did it go?” asked Natasha.

“Nothing worth talking about. Once again, the school budget seems to be out of the hands of anyone I talk to. No one can help me get the money that my school needs,” responded Toni, sounding exasperated.

Trying to sound reassuring, Natasha said, “Babe, you will get the help that you need. You’re a great principal and the school loves you.”

“Love isn’t getting me the funding I need,” replied Toni.

“I get it, but be patient. You have only been the principal at DuBois High for a year now. If it weren’t for you, the school wouldn’t have half of the things they have now. You got the sports teams new uniforms, new computers for the library…relax a little.”

“Yeah, and most of that came from my bank account.”

“It’s OUR bank account!” exclaimed Natasha. “Don’t get it twisted because my name is on OUR account. So I helped you pay for all of that stuff.”

“Whatever, Tasha!” Toni said as she rolled her eyes. “We know what’s what. I really don’t need you pointing it out every time I say something about money.”

“I was making sure you didn’t forget. That’s all. Don’t you want to go out and have some drinks, maybe meet up with some friends…something to make you relax a little? You stay on edge when it comes to your school.”

“A drink or two or three does sound good. And not because I’m on edge because I’m not! I need to take a shower and change these clothes.”

Toni Cook, a 36 year old 5’10”, brown-skinned, athletic framed, Black woman, was dressed in her work clothes, which usually consisted of slim-fitting dress slacks, button-down shirts, and colorful blazers. From time to time, she would even through on a bowtie. She kept her hair cut short, cut into a wavy fade, with some honey-brown streaks highlighting its black color.

As Toni walked out of the living room to head upstairs to their bedroom, Natasha followed behind and continued to talk. “Ummm, yeah you are on edge. Every single day it’s something new or the same thing. I don’t know why you didn’t take the job at the private school. At least they have money so there would be none of this worrying.”

“That’s exactly why I didn’t take the job there,” Toni stated as she stopped in her tracks. “I need to be somewhere I can make a difference. Nothing will change if people continue to turn their backs on us.”

“Toni, it’s not that serious. You really do need to relax.”

“Not that serious to you, the White girl who has lived a privileged life.”

“See, I don’t even know why you feel that’s even relevant. First of all, I’m not even all White. Second of all, you love me so there is something about my privileged ass that got your attention.”

Natasha Springfield was a 5’6”, well-toned, 38 year old woman, mixed with Black and Irish. Her face was decorated with freckles on a light brown background. Natasha’s hair was a brownish curly mane, with afro characteristics, that reached the middle of her back.

“Yeah, you know why I fell in love with you!” Toni said as she grabbed Natasha by the waste and pulled her close. “Show me again why. Sometimes I need to be reminded, especially when you getting’ on my nerves.”

“You’re such a fuckin’ freak!” Natasha smiled as she embraced Toni too. “We don’t have to go anywhere tonight. We have liquor here and I can make you relax.”

“That’s fine with me,” Toni responded as she let go of Natasha’s waist to take hold of her hand and lead her to the bedroom.
