Once Toni checked into the king suite in the five-star hotel, for a possible two-night stay, she proceeded to roll up a few cones with weed and place them on a nightstand. It was routine for her and Ashanti to smoke during their time together. It seemed to make the entire experience more intense and open. After rolling up, she made two drinks of Jack and ginger ale. Toni would not drink until her and Ashanti made a toast.
Before Toni could become impatient, Ashanti entered the room with the key she retrieved from the front desk. “You have my drink ready?” Ashanti asked.
“Damn, no hello, kiss, nothing?” Toni playfully asked.
“Hello,” Ashanti responded as she went to give Toni a kiss.
“That’s much better. Thank you!”
“You’re welcome. Now can I please have my drink?”
“Anything for you, my love.” Toni handed Ashanti her glass and raised hers so that they could toast. “Here is to a wonderful evening, with a beautiful chocolate woman.”
“So sweet! A different time and I may have made you marry me.”
“You still can. I think that Ashanti Cook has a nice ring to it. Besides, I seriously doubt your gay boy Marcus is really trying to tie you down for life.”
“Yeah, well you already know how I feel about all of that. We both know the things that will never be. Besides, why change up a good thing? All love doesn’t have to be publicized.”
“I wouldn’t mind going public with my love for you. You’re that woman! It doesn’t hurt to keep letting you know how I feel. Maybe one day. You can’t predict our future.”
“How do you know?” Ashanti asked smiling. “I can tell you what’s about to happen tonight.”
Sipping her drink, Toni asked, “What do you think is about to happen?”
As she turned so that Toni could unzip her dress, Ashanti slowly and intentionally spoke, “You’re going to make me forget about any woes that I may have. Then you’re going to sit, laugh, smoke, and drink with me. We will talk about the futures that we know will never happen, but sound so good. You and I are going to enjoy the company of one another as we make up our own reality.”
“All of that sounds so good!” Toni said as she lit one of the cones. She inhaled a few times and then passed it to Ashanti. “I do think that you’re wrong about futures never happening. We can make them happen if we want to.”
“Toni, you’re so optimistic and I love that about you. That is only part of the evening I predicted though.”
“We just gettin’ started my sweet love!” As Ashanti predicted, the night was filled with the two of them enjoying each other on a mental, physical, and spiritual plane. They laughed and even cried a little, while in the presence of each other. This went on until there was nothing more to drink or smoke and eyes could no longer stay open. They fell asleep in the early hours of the morning, entangled in each other’s embrace.
