Interview with Comedienne Grace Fraga; she’s doing BIG things in a real way!

Grace Fraga

Grace Fraga

Grace Fraga is an award-winning actress, comedienne, writer and producer. She has appeared on NBC, A&E, CBS, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, VH-1, Real TV, Univision, Galavision and Telemundo. Her guest starring roles include, “The Steve Harvey Show,” “Gene Simmons Family Jewels,” “Comedy Cage Match,” “FBI Files,” “Mystery ER,” “Killer Outbreaks,” “The First Time” and “North Mission Road.” Grace’s Spanish language credits include “No Me Hallo,” “Accesso Maximo” and “Amor o Mentira,” among others.

Grace is author of “Love at First Ex,” which is a helpful guide on “how to love and manage your exes.” This book is so fabulous, Grace was asked to be a guest on NBC’s “The Steve Harvey Show.” This multi-talented comedienne also created, executive produced and hosted a pilot for PBS. Grace is not just talking about it; she’s doing big things in a real way.

Grace is vibrant, full of fun and laughter and will have you laughing until your sides hurt. She’s a hot, white Latina with a lovable personality that will have you craving more of her funny antics. She’s performed stand-up at The Comedy Store, The Improv, The Laugh Factory, The Ice House, The Comedy Zone, Harrah’s, and Laugh-A-Latte@Hot Java Coffeehouse.

I caught up with Grace at her recent perfomance at Laugh-A-Latte@Hot Java Coffeehouse, in Long Beach. Follow me as we journey through the world of comedienne Grace Fraga.

Renisha Marie: Who is Grace Fraga?

Grace Fraga: Grace Fraga is a white Latina with Neiman Marcus taste and a K-Mart budget.

Renisha Marie: Tell the world about your book, “Love at First Ex.”

Grace Fraga: I was a guest on “The Steve Harvey Show” in February of 2013. They had me as a “relationship coach” because of the book I wrote, “Love at First Ex”. It’s a guide on how to love and manage your Exes. The biggest mistake people make is to get rid of them. Don’t! This book will teach you how to use them as resources so that you can turn your life into a Fairy Tale: “Alice in Ex Wonderland.” I also got a development deal from PBS to shoot a pilot for a show. I’m creator, executive producer and host.

Renisha Marie: When did you know comedy was what you wanted to do?

Grace Fraga: When I realized how laughter lightens up the load. I love to have fun and laugh. Comedy is my passion. You can’t beat doing what you like and getting paid for it!

Renisha Marie: Were you always funny?

Grace Fraga: I was always the life of the party. I was shy, though, until the age of 16. Then fun heaven broke loose and voila!

Renisha Marie: What was the best gig you ever performed?

Grace Fraga: A recent private gig for a trucking association. I had two hot, single guys in the audience competing for my heart.

Renisha Marie: Who is your favorite comedian of all time?

Grace Fraga: Wanda Sykes. She’s a brilliant, natural comedian.

Renisha Marie: Who is your biggest inspiration?

Grace Fraga: My parents. They turned me into the hyperactive workaholic that I am today.

Renisha Marie: Tell us about some qualities that a good comedian should have?

Grace Fraga: Timing, timing, timing. The ability to CONNECT with the audience.

Renisha Marie: What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Grace Fraga: Embrace the pause.

Renisha Marie: What advice do you have for aspiring comedians?

Grace Fraga: Work at your craft. Have passion for comedy. Never give up

Exclusive Interview with Comedian Nina Manni

Nina Manni is a comedian who dishes it out straight with no chaser. She’s down-to-earth, funny, F-A-B and fierce all rolled into one. And she is taking the comedy bull by the horns and riding into success.

I caught Nina’s act at the Ha Ha Café in North Hollywood, California, and she was hysterically funny. Nina Manni is a comedian who is confident and owns the stage. She is hilarious and uncensored. When you come to a Nina Manni show, you better believe that she will bring it and deliver every time.

Follow me as we journey into the world of Nina Manni.

Renisha Marie: Who is Nina Manni?

Nina Manni: What do you mean? I’m Nina Manni. Right? Wait, am I supposed to talk about myself in the third person? Yeah….I don’t like myself enough to do that.

Renisha Marie: (Note to self, “Only ask questions of Nina that she can respond to in the first person. HAHAHA! Renisha Marie loves talking about herself in the third person. Oops! Too much information. Back to the interview LOL.”)

Renisha Marie: On what projects are you currently working?

Nina Manni: I’m currently working on trying to get my dog to sit on his hind legs and wave his paws in the air whenever I say “Hey girl!” Besides that, I write scripts with my hubby and my fabulous writing partner and I’m the warm-up comic for Joan Rivers’ “Fashion Police.”

Renisha Marie: When did you know comedy was what you wanted to do?

Nina Manni: A psychic told me when I was 19 that I was going to be a stand-up. I thought he was crazy but ended up giving it a shot many years later. Partially because I felt bad about him being wrong.

Renisha Marie: I caught your act at the Ha Ha Cafe and you were irreverent, insightful, and, well, insane (forgive the alliteration). All good things, by the way. Were you always funny?

Nina Manni: I don’t know if I was always funny, but I was always pissed about something. And when I got pissed, people always laughed.

Renisha Marie: What was the best gig you ever performed?

Nina Manni: Sometimes I get to perform in a line-up with my husband, which is the best because then people know all the things I say about him are true.

Renisha Marie: Who is your favorite comedian of all time?

Nina Manni: I like a lot of different comedians for different reasons. Patton Oswalt is an amazing wordsmith; I love how tight Chris Rock’s writing is; I’m moved by the emotional journeys Simon Amstell takes you on; and I’m endlessly inspired by Joan Rivers.

Renisha Marie: Who is your biggest inspiration?

Nina Manni: It’s always been Joan Rivers. I remember sitting in my friend’s basement, clad in boas and tiaras, watching Joan hosting the red carpet and thinking she was just the funniest “I don’t give a fuck what you think” woman ever. The fact that I get to work for her now? It’s just stupid cool.

Renisha Marie: Tell us about some qualities that a good comedian should have?

Nina Manni: Man, there are just so many different things that make people good. I could give you a list of qualities, then show you a good comic with the opposite qualities. Just be willing to do the work.

Renisha Marie: What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

Nina Manni: Write what you think is funny, not what you think other people will think is funny.

Renisha Marie: What advice do you have for aspiring comedians?

Nina Manni: This may sound harsh, but the odds are you aren’t going to make it, not in any “Hollywood” sense. So, if you don’t enjoy what you are doing in an attempt to make it, QUIT. Seriously.

Nina Manni dished out some real advice with no chaser. In short: Follow your passion and do it because you love it.
